Last week I didn’t sit down to share some thoughts with the world. Honestly, I felt as though I was living at work and I definitely didn’t want to talk about that. I didn’t want to talk about the lack of balance I’ve had since the beginning of the year. A time in which my vacation days still ended up doing work.
Not much has changed, but it’s pretty amazing sometimes when life has other needs that force you to step away. Especially when it sends you home.
We headed to Jacksonville for the weekend for my friends baby shower. Originally the weather was going to be really gross, but it ended up being pretty perfect. Nice breezes, but warm. A little overcast, but the right amount of sunny.
And I fit in a ton of things. From Sweet Theory to Volcano sushi I was in a food happy place. Not to mention my insane amount of food at Gilbert Social. Drooling like woah. I had some quality time with my brother, his gf, and my niece. We didn’t go out a ton, but I loved relaxing. It really was like being home. Probably also felt like I was home because I got my hair done! Cut and colored by my favorite hairstylist in the city.
It was the quickest trip ever – well technically I’ve been there for less time – but it flew by. The baby shower was awesome and my niece absolutely loved the setup at Engine 15 Brewing. It also wasn’t a surprise that people knew how truly kid friendly it was. She was entertained for hours while I was panicking about the possibly of something going wrong while I had her. Needless to say she made a ton of one-time friends and reminded me of my own inability to talk to strangers. She is the best eight year old, and I’m not saying that out of bias.
While I’m not sure when we’ll be back… I’m glad the trip was as good as it was. Keeps the memories growing and the connection strong.
Until next time ✌🏼
