My First Camping Trip

  • If you’ve been following along, you know I spent some time this year road tripping in the north east. We had an awesome time loading up the car and checking out for a week. I didn’t write a blog about every stop, but this is the journey we took:
    • Hatteras to Charlotte

Considering I had never camped before, people were shocked that we committed to so much camping. We only planned one night of hotel activity – in Atlantic City. There are so many things I learned on this trip. I’ve highlighted them below:

    • Camping isn’t as terrifying as I thought it would be
    • Going to bed and rising with the sun is actually insanely refreshing
    • Camp grounds can be clean – we stayed at several that were!
    • Even being clean, campground showers are my least favorite part of the whole thing
    • We need another tarp for our tent because an insane amount of rain can’t be contained
    • A moderate hike in the north means it’s a strenuous hike in the south
    • Food poisoning while camping is really unfortunate
    • Sleeping in a hammock is a great way to relax after throwing up on the side of the road
    • Ferry rides are a fun time
    • North Carolina has a National Park (I really had no idea…even when we booked the campground)

I know there’s more, but I really would do this trip a million times over. I’m already ready to do it again. While not everything went perfectly, it was an amazing trip. I didn’t complete disconnect, but it was enough for now.

Opt outside. Or just try something that scares you.
